Full Windshield Tint vs a Windshield Eyebrow Strip

Full windshield tint

Covers nearly the entire glass for broader glare, UV and heat reduction.

Eyebrow strip

Covers only the upper portion of the windshield to help with overhead sunlight.

The $84.99 eyebrow-strip price is not the starting price for full-windshield tinting. Neither option should automatically be described as NJ legal.

Standard vs Carbon vs Ceramic Windshield Tint

Standard — from $124.99

A practical option for appearance, privacy or affordability.

Carbon — from $149.99

A strong overall value when better heat rejection matters.

Ceramic — from $224.99

Best when windshield heat reduction is the priority.

XPEL — call for pricing

Premium branded film priced for the vehicle, series and installation needs.

Ceramic does not need to be extremely dark to reject heat. A lighter Ceramic film may outperform a darker entry-level film.

Compare Carbon vs Ceramic tint·Ceramic tinting in South Jersey

Choosing a Windshield Tint Percentage

The percentage describes approximately how much visible light the film permits before accounting for the vehicle’s existing glass.

70%

Very light appearance for drivers prioritizing heat or UV performance.

55%

Light tint with slightly more visible shading than 70%.

50%

Noticeably tinted from some angles while retaining comparatively strong visibility.

40%

More noticeable appearance with increased daytime privacy.

35%

Clearly tinted and darker than 40%, 50%, 55% and 70%.

25%

Dark appearance with substantially reduced nighttime visibility.

20%

Strong privacy and a very dark exterior appearance.

15%

Extremely dark for a full windshield in poorly illuminated areas.

5%

Limo-dark appearance and unsuitable for normal nighttime driving.

For heat concerns, compare lighter Carbon and Ceramic options such as 70%, 55% and 50% first. Dope Tintings does not recommend 25%, 20%, 15% or 5% full-windshield tint for an average driver because they can make nighttime driving considerably harder.

Is Windshield Tint Legal in New Jersey?

New Jersey prohibits aftermarket sunscreening on the windshield for ordinary drivers. NJMVC allows windshield sunscreening for qualifying medical reasons after a driver completes the application process and receives approval.

  • A doctor’s prescription by itself is not final NJMVC approval.
  • Standard, Carbon, Ceramic and XPEL are subject to the same legal requirements.
  • Light-colored or nearly clear Ceramic film is not automatically legal.
  • Customers should review current NJMVC requirements before installation.

Windshield Tint and New Jersey Inspection Stickers

For vehicles with approved medical windshield sunscreening, this approximately 6-by-8-inch tint-free inspection area is required by NJMVC. Tell Dope Tintings before installation so the opening can be incorporated into the windshield pattern.

How Long Does Windshield Tinting Take?

A normal full-windshield tint installation takes approximately 1–2 hours. Completion time can vary with windshield size, curvature, dashboard access, cameras, sensors, existing film and the day’s schedule.

  1. 1Inspect the windshield and surrounding dashboard.
  2. 2Protect sensitive interior areas.
  3. 3Clean and prepare the glass.
  4. 4Computer-cut or precisely prepare the film.
  5. 5Heat-form the film to the windshield’s curvature.
  6. 6Install film on the interior surface.
  7. 7Inspect the completed installation.

Windshield Tint Aftercare and Curing

Temporary haze or moisture pockets can appear while the tint cures. Summer curing normally takes approximately 1–2 weeks; winter curing may take one to one-and-a-half months. Avoid cleaning the inside during the initial curing period and use ammonia-free cleaner afterward.

Can Existing Windshield Tint Be Removed and Replaced?

Yes. Existing windshield tint can be removed before new film is installed. Removal is priced separately because labor depends on film condition, adhesive, windshield size and dashboard access.

New film should not be installed directly over old windshield tint. Layering can reduce visibility, create distortion and interfere with adhesion.

Windshield Tinting FAQs

How much does windshield tinting cost in South Jersey?

Full windshield tint starts at $124.99 for Standard film, $149.99 for Carbon and $224.99 for Ceramic. XPEL is available by quote.

How long does it take to tint a windshield?

A normal installation typically takes about 1–2 hours, depending on the vehicle and glass.

What windshield tint percentages are available?

Available shades may include 70%, 55%, 50%, 40%, 35%, 25%, 20%, 15% and 5%, depending on the selected film.

Is windshield tint legal in New Jersey?

New Jersey restricts aftermarket windshield tint for ordinary drivers. Qualifying medical sunscreening requires NJMVC approval.

Is a doctor’s prescription enough for windshield tint?

No. A doctor’s prescription alone is not final NJMVC approval for medical windshield sunscreening.

Will windshield tint affect NJ inspection?

Windshield tint can affect New Jersey inspection. Vehicles with approved medical windshield sunscreening must have an approximately 6-by-8-inch tint-free area in the lower-left corner, viewed from the driver’s position, for the inspection sticker. Customers should review current NJMVC requirements before installation.

Do you leave an opening for the NJ inspection sticker?

Yes, when requested before installation. Customers with approved medical windshield sunscreening should tell Dope Tintings that they need the NJMVC-required inspection-sticker opening.

Is 70% windshield tint worth it?

It can be a good choice for a light appearance with heat and UV performance based on the selected film.

Should I choose 50% or 35% windshield tint?

50% generally supports better nighttime visibility, while 35% has a darker appearance and more daytime privacy.

Does Ceramic windshield tint need to be dark?

No. Film construction and performance are separate from visible-light transmission, so lighter Ceramic films can provide strong heat rejection.

Can old windshield tint be removed?

Yes. Removal is available at an additional cost before new film is installed.

Do you provide mobile windshield tinting?

No. Windshield tinting is completed in-shop at Dope Tintings in Pennsauken.
