This actual customer installation included:

• 5% XPEL XR window film
• Driver-side roll-down window

This is the customer’s preferred setup. He consistently chooses 5% on the sides and rear of his vehicles, along with 35% on the windshield.

Unlike a first-time customer choosing from a display board, he already understands how 5% performs during the day and at night. His familiarity with very dark tint allowed him to select it confidently for the ZR1.

XPEL XR was provided as a complimentary loyalty upgrade. This customer is also a longtime friend who has brought approximately 50 to 55 vehicles to Dope Tintings over the years.

Not all his previous vehicles received XPEL because Dope Tintings began carrying the brand approximately three or four years ago. The upgrade on this Corvette reflects the amount of repeat business and support he has given the shop; it is not automatically included with every Corvette installation.

The 5% XPEL XR film gives the side windows a very dark finished appearance. Someone standing outside would have difficulty identifying the driver or seeing the Santorini Blue and Jet Black interior during normal daylight.

The windows do not need to be described as completely blacked out to communicate the result accurately. Some light can still enter through the windshield, and the appearance may change slightly with sunlight, clouds, reflections, and viewing angle.

Even with those variables, the cabin remains difficult to see from nearly every side angle. The bright blue interior does not overcome the darkness created by the film and the Corvette’s limited glass area.

A Corvette ZR1 sits considerably lower than a sedan, SUV, or pickup truck. Its seating position is low, the side windows are small, and the cabin has less exposed glass for sunlight to enter.

Those characteristics make 5% appear particularly dark on this vehicle. The same labeled percentage may look different on a larger vehicle with taller windows and more light entering the cabin.

The exterior paint does not make tint lighter or darker. The factors that matter are the interior color, available cabin light, glass size, windshield coverage, reflections, weather, and viewing angle.

During daylight, the customer can see through 5% because outdoor light helps illuminate the road and surrounding vehicles. He is also familiar with this percentage from his previous cars.

Nighttime is more challenging. The small windows and low seating position already limit the view compared with a larger vehicle, and 5% further reduces the available light reaching the driver.

A driver should expect additional difficulty when:

• Changing lanes on a poorly lit road
• Checking for vehicles beside the Corvette
• Backing into a parking space
• Parallel parking
• Watching for curbs or low objects
• Driving during rain or other low-visibility conditions

Streetlights, parking-lot lights, headlights, and nearby businesses can make it easier to see out. In darker areas, lowering the windows may be necessary before parking or maneuvering through a tight space.

We only recommend this setup for someone who already has experience driving with very dark window tint. Most Corvette owners do not choose 5% because the car’s low seating position and small windows make nighttime visibility more demanding.

This customer knows what to expect and specifically requests the same setup for his vehicles. A first-time tint customer should consider a lighter percentage before choosing 5% solely for its appearance.

Is XPEL XR installed inside or outside the Corvette’s windows?
The film is installed on the interior surface of the glass. The exterior remains exposed to normal washing, weather, and road conditions.

Will 5% tint become noticeably lighter after it cures?
No. Temporary moisture or haze may disappear during curing, but the film will remain a very dark 5% shade.

How long should the Corvette’s windows remain closed after tinting?
Keep both roll-down windows closed for at least 24 hours after installation to avoid disturbing the film before the adhesive begins curing.

Will a small tint sample look the same as 5% installed across the Corvette?
Not exactly. A small sample receives light from every direction and often appears lighter than the same percentage installed across the complete side-window area of a low, enclosed cabin.
