What Does 5% Carbon Tint Look Like on a 2021–2027 Kia K5?

This gray 2026 Kia K5 received 5% Carbon window tint on all four doors, the fixed side glass and the rear window at our Pennsauken, NJ shop. The customer wanted a blacked-out appearance, increased privacy and stronger heat rejection without paying for Ceramic film on a leased vehicle.

This article applies to the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 Kia K5. The full windshield was also tinted during this appointment, but that installation will be covered separately.

Why Did This Kia K5 Customer Choose 5% Carbon Tint?

This customer wanted his new K5 to have a dark, private appearance while also gaining meaningful heat rejection. He chose 5% because he was already familiar with dark window film and knew exactly how much privacy he wanted.

He selected our Carbon package instead of Standard because heat rejection was important to him. However, he did not want to pay the higher price for Ceramic film because the K5 is leased. He generally replaces his vehicles every two to three years, so Carbon provided the balance he wanted between heat rejection, price and the amount of time he expects to keep the car.

Ceramic would have provided greater heat rejection, but Carbon made more sense for this customer’s particular situation. It gave him more performance than a basic appearance-focused film without requiring the additional Ceramic investment.

The installation covered more than the four windows that roll up and down. This K5 has small fixed windows beside the front roll-down windows, fixed quarter glass behind the rear doors and the rear windshield. All of those pieces were included so the side and rear sections would have one consistent 5% appearance.

This was not the customer’s first experience with Dope Tintings. We have completed several vehicles for him, including a 2024 Kia K5 and a 2024 Kia Telluride. The 2026 K5 is the second K5 he has brought to our shop.

That history is important to understanding why he confidently selected 5%. He was not experimenting with dark tint for the first time. He already knew our work, understood the appearance and visibility of the percentage, and returned with a specific setup in mind.

Can You See the Red Interior Through 5% Kia K5 Tint?

The red interior is one of the most distinctive features of this 2026 Kia K5, but it was not clearly visible through the completed 5% installation. Although bright interiors can sometimes make the same tint percentage appear lighter, 5% was dark enough that the red seats did not prevent this K5 from developing a blacked-out appearance.

From the side during daylight, the four doors, small front fixed windows, rear quarter glass and back window appeared consistently dark. The red cabin did not make the driver or passengers easy to identify through the side glass.

The gray exterior created a sharp visual contrast against the nearly black windows. Exterior paint does not change the film’s actual visible light transmission, but the contrast between the gray body and dark glass makes the 5% appearance stand out.

Viewing conditions can still change how 5% looks. Direct sunlight entering through the windshield can occasionally reveal a faint silhouette, while reflections on the side glass can make the same window appear completely black. The viewing angle, surrounding objects and position of the sun all affect what someone outside the vehicle can see.

After the windshield tint was added, the completed combination looked even darker because less light entered the cabin from the front. The windshield percentage and installation will be explained in its own article, but it contributed to the fully finished appearance shown in the photographs.

Even with the bright red interior, this particular K5 still achieved the blacked-out appearance the customer wanted.

Is 5% Kia K5 Tint Difficult to See Through at Night?

During daylight, 5% is considerably easier to see through from inside the vehicle than it is at night, especially in bright outdoor conditions. This customer was already accustomed to driving with 5% and knew what to expect.

Nighttime visibility is considerably different. Because 5% film allows very little visible light through the glass, poorly illuminated roads and parking areas can become challenging. A driver may need to roll down a window when backing into a dark space, checking a curb or looking for an object beside the vehicle.

For that reason, we do not recommend 5% as a first tint percentage for someone who has never driven with dark window film. Its appearance may be appealing, but drivers should understand that the same darkness providing privacy during the day remains on the windows at night.

Streetlights, storefront lighting and other vehicles can make nighttime visibility more manageable. In an area with limited surrounding light, however, the difference between 5% and a lighter percentage such as 15% or 20% becomes much more noticeable.

This particular customer was already familiar with that tradeoff. When he saw the finished K5, he was very happy with the appearance and pleased with our work. He also told us that we would see him again in another couple of years when it was time for his next leased vehicle.
