This actual customer installation included:

This longtime Mount Laurel-area customer has brought approximately 50 to 55 vehicles to Dope Tintings. His preferred setup is consistently 5% on the sides and rear with 35% across the windshield.

His goals for the windshield were:

• More privacy through the front of the Corvette
• A darker exterior appearance
• Moderate glare reduction
• Heat rejection from XPEL XR
• A complete appearance when combined with the 5% side glass
• A percentage he already understands from driving his other vehicles

XPEL XR was provided as a premium upgrade because of the customer’s long relationship with the shop. Customers requesting XPEL should call for current vehicle-specific pricing.

The 35% windshield tint is clearly noticeable during daylight. The windshield looks substantially darker than untreated glass, especially because this Corvette also has 5% film on the sides and rear.

Sunlight, clouds, reflections, and viewing angle determine how much of the cabin can be seen. Direct light entering the windshield can reveal that someone is sitting inside, but the person may only be vaguely visible.

The Corvette’s low seating position, small cabin, and dark areas surrounding the windshield also make it harder to see the driver clearly. The result is a very dark appearance without making the windshield completely black under every condition.

Looking out through 35% windshield tint during the day is clear and manageable for an experienced customer. Road markings, vehicles, traffic signals, and surrounding objects remain visible under normal daytime conditions.

Nighttime visibility is also manageable when the road and surrounding area are properly illuminated. Dark rural roads, poorly lit parking lots, bad weather, and reduced individual eyesight can make the windshield feel darker.

Dope Tintings generally recommends 35% as the darkest windshield percentage customers should consider for regular driving. Anything darker can create a more significant nighttime visibility challenge.

Thirty-five-percent film provides some glare reduction, but customers should not expect it to eliminate strong glare.

Think of windshield tint like sunglasses: darker lenses normally reduce more glare. The important difference is that sunglasses can be removed when conditions become dark, while windshield tint remains in place during both daytime and nighttime driving.

The customer wanted a reasonable balance between glare reduction and outward visibility. Someone whose primary concern is heat rather than darkness may prefer a lighter ceramic windshield film.

This Corvette received Dope Tintings’ optional $20 inspection-sticker removal service. We removed the sticker, cleaned the remaining adhesive from the glass, installed the windshield film as one continuous piece, and placed the sticker on static-cling material before repositioning it over the tint.

Customers generally have three installation considerations:

1. Tint around the sticker: A visible opening is left in the film around the inspection-sticker area.
2. Remove and reposition the sticker: The $20 service creates a cleaner one-piece tint appearance by placing the sticker on static cling.
3. Install film over the sticker: Dope Tintings does not recommend or offer this method because removing the sticker later could damage the surrounding film.

The static-cling service improves the finished appearance, but it does not make windshield tint legal or guarantee acceptance at a New Jersey inspection facility. Vehicle owners should confirm their inspection requirements before selecting an installation method.

This windshield-tint example applies to the current C8 Corvette ZR1 model years:

The ZR1 requires a more involved installation, so standard film is not available for its sides-and-rear service.

This customer did not have an approved New Jersey medical-sunscreening exemption. He understood that the installation could create law-enforcement and inspection concerns and chose to proceed with his preferred setup.

Does 35% film guarantee that the finished windshield will measure exactly 35%?
No. The original windshield already blocks a small amount of light, so the finished reading may be darker than the film’s labeled percentage.

Does XPEL XR windshield tint have a mirrored appearance?
No. XPEL XR is not intended to create a mirror finish. Reflections from clouds, buildings, and the sky can still make the windshield look different from one angle to another.

How long does a full Corvette windshield installation take?
A full windshield installation generally takes approximately one to two hours. The inspection-sticker service and vehicle-specific installation conditions can affect the final completion time.

Is temporary haze normal after windshield tinting?
Yes. Moisture, light haze, and small water pockets can remain while the film cures. They normally become less noticeable as the moisture evaporates.
