What Does 25% Carbon Windshield Tint Look Like on a 2021–2027 Kia K5?

This gray 2026 Kia K5 received 25% Carbon tint across the entire front windshield at our Pennsauken, NJ shop. The customer selected this setup for additional heat rejection, privacy, glare reduction and a darker finished appearance that complemented the 5% Carbon tint already installed on the sides and rear.

This article applies to the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 Kia K5. You can also see the separate real-vehicle example covering the 5% Carbon tint on this K5’s four doors and rear window.

Why Did This Kia K5 Customer Choose 25% Carbon Windshield Tint?

The customer wanted the windshield to complete the dark appearance created by the 5% Carbon film on the four doors, fixed side glass and rear window. Leaving the windshield untreated would have allowed more light to enter the red interior and made the cabin easier to see from outside.

Privacy was an important part of the decision, but it was not the customer’s only goal. He also wanted additional heat rejection and some glare reduction through the large front windshield.

He chose Carbon instead of Ceramic because this K5 is leased. Although Ceramic would provide greater heat rejection, the customer generally replaces his vehicles every two to three years and did not want to make the additional investment. Carbon provided the balance of performance, appearance and price that made sense for his ownership plans.

This customer was also familiar with darker film. We have tinted several of his vehicles, including a 2024 Kia K5 and a 2024 Kia Telluride. Because he already had experience driving vehicles with dark windows, he understood what to expect from 25% across the windshield.

The customer did not have an approved New Jersey medical exemption. A 25% full windshield is not our everyday recommendation for a New Jersey driver trying to avoid tint-related enforcement or inspection issues. Customers should review the current New Jersey window tint requirements before choosing a full-windshield percentage.

His inspection sticker was removed before the windshield installation so the film could be applied as one continuous piece without a cutout surrounding the sticker.

After the installation was complete, we placed the inspection sticker onto static-cling film and reapplied it over the tint. This optional service costs an additional $20 and produces a cleaner windshield appearance than installing the film around the original sticker.

How Dark Does 25% Windshield Tint Look With 5% Side Tint?

The completed windshield was noticeably dark from outside during daylight. Identifying the driver through the windshield was difficult, although the result changed depending on the viewing angle, sunlight and reflections across the glass.

From some angles, a person looking into the vehicle could see a faint silhouette. From other positions, reflections from the sky and surrounding environment concealed most of the cabin. Looking directly through the windshield under bright sunlight could reveal slightly more than viewing it from either front corner.

The 5% film covering the sides and rear made the 25% windshield appear darker because very little outside light entered the cabin through the other windows. This is an important difference between viewing 25% on a vehicle with clear side windows and seeing it on this particular K5.

The K5 also had a bright red interior. A lighter or brighter interior can sometimes make window film appear more transparent, but the combined 25% windshield and 5% sides limited enough incoming light to keep the cabin extremely private.

The gray exterior created additional visual contrast with the dark glass. Exterior paint does not change the film’s visible light transmission, but the combination of the gray body, black roof, dark side windows and tinted windshield gave this K5 a consistent finished appearance.

The photographs show why windshield tint cannot be judged from one picture or viewing angle. The same 25% windshield may look almost black when reflecting the sky but reveal a silhouette when sunlight enters from behind the vehicle.

On this actual 2026 K5, 25% Carbon paired naturally with the existing 5% sides and rear and created the dark appearance the customer wanted.

Is 25% Kia K5 Windshield Tint Easy to See Through at Night?

During daylight, the view through the 25% windshield remained considerably clearer from inside the K5 than the dark exterior appearance might suggest. Bright outdoor conditions made the road, vehicles and surrounding objects visible through the glass.

Nighttime visibility can be more challenging. The amount of available street lighting becomes especially important because the windshield remains the same darkness after sunset. A well-lit highway or commercial area will look different from an unlit residential road or rural area.

We generally prefer 35% for customers asking for a dark windshield recommendation because it offers a better balance between appearance and nighttime visibility. However, 25% may be manageable for someone who already has experience driving with dark windshield tint and understands its limitations.

We would not recommend 25% as a first windshield percentage for an inexperienced tint customer. Someone accustomed only to untreated glass may find the reduction in nighttime visibility more noticeable than expected, particularly during bad weather or in areas with limited lighting.

This returning customer already knew what darker windshield tint looked like and was comfortable with the tradeoff. He was pleased with the completed K5 and told us that he expects to return with another vehicle when this lease is replaced in approximately two to three years.
