What Does 20% Tint Look Like on a 2015–2020 Honda Fit?

20% tint gives a 2015–2020 Honda Fit a dark appearance with strong daytime privacy while remaining manageable for everyday driving. On this silver 2019 Honda Fit, we installed 20% standard film on all side windows and the rear glass.

The photographs were taken during cloudy, rainy conditions, which made the black interior appear darker than it might on a bright day. The tint produced a strong silhouette effect, and occupants could not be identified from outside.

Twenty percent remains comfortable for most drivers during the day and at night. In a poorly lit parking area, the driver may occasionally need to lower a window for a clearer view.

What We Tinted on This 2019 Honda Fit

This real customer installation included:

  • 20% standard film on both front doors
  • 20% standard film on both rear doors
  • 20% standard film on the fixed side-window sections
  • 20% standard film on the rear glass
  • Factory windshield left unchanged

The Honda Fit has more individual pieces of side and rear glass than a typical sedan. Every side-window section and the back window received the same 20% film to create a consistent appearance.

Which Honda Fit Model Years Does This Cover?

This article covers the following Honda Fit model years:

  • 2015 Honda Fit
  • 2016 Honda Fit
  • 2017 Honda Fit
  • 2018 Honda Fit
  • 2019 Honda Fit
  • 2020 Honda Fit

The featured vehicle is a 2019 Honda Fit.

Why Did the Customer Choose 20% Tint?

The customer was referred to Dope Tintings by one of our previous customers. He was tired of people describing his untinted Honda Fit as a “fishbowl” and wanted the cabin to feel more private.

He chose 20% for a combination of:

  • Increased privacy
  • A darker exterior appearance
  • Reduced glare
  • Less visibility into the cabin
  • Manageable daytime and nighttime visibility

Five percent would have provided stronger privacy but would have been considerably more challenging after dark. Twenty percent offered a better balance for a vehicle used for everyday driving.

How Much Privacy Does 20% Provide During the Day?

During the rainy, overcast conditions shown in these photographs, 20% created a strong silhouette appearance. People outside could tell that someone might be sitting inside, but they could not clearly identify the occupants.

The effect was slightly darker than the silhouette appearance we normally expect from 20% on a sunny day. Cloud cover reduced the amount of light entering through the windshield and surrounding glass.

On a bright day, direct sunlight may reveal more interior detail. Reflections, viewing angle, distance, and the direction of the sun will also change how easily someone can see into the vehicle.

Twenty percent provides useful privacy, but customers should not expect the near-total concealment associated with 5%.

Does the Honda Fit’s Large Glass Area Affect Tint Appearance?

Yes. The Honda Fit has a tall cabin and a large amount of glass for a compact vehicle. More glass allows additional light to enter the interior, which can make a tint percentage appear lighter under bright conditions.

Tinting every side-window section and the rear glass helps reduce that effect. Leaving several pieces clear would allow more light into the cabin and create an inconsistent exterior appearance.

The black interior also helped this installation appear darker. A Fit with beige or light-gray upholstery may look slightly lighter with the same 20% film.

These variables are why real vehicle photographs provide a better reference than a small tint sample held against one window.

Can a Honda Fit Be Tinted While It Is Raining?

Yes. Automotive window film is installed on the inside surface of the glass, so rain outside does not prevent a professional installation.

The Honda Fit was brought inside the shop, where its windows could be cleaned, prepared, tinted, and inspected in a controlled environment. The rainy conditions did not affect the film’s percentage or installation quality.

Weather does affect how tint looks in photographs. Clouds and rain reduce exterior brightness and the amount of light entering the cabin, making the windows appear darker from outside.

Is 20% Tint Good for Everyday Driving?

Yes. We recommend 20% for a Honda Fit owner who wants noticeable privacy without choosing an extremely dark percentage.

During daylight, outward visibility is comfortable for most drivers. At night, streetlights, headlights, and normal traffic illumination should provide enough surrounding light for manageable visibility.

Twenty percent is darker than 35% but easier to live with than 5%. It is a practical choice for customers who want the vehicle to look clearly tinted without creating severe nighttime limitations.

Customers comparing moderate shades can read our 20% versus 35% window tint guide.

What Should Drivers Expect at Night?

Drivers should be able to see through 20% tint during normal nighttime driving. Individual eyesight and surrounding lighting will still affect the experience.

The greatest limitation appears while parking in a poorly lit area. Curbs, parking-space lines, pedestrians, and nearby objects may be harder to see through the side windows.

Lowering a window can provide a clearer view when maneuvering in a dark parking lot or driveway. This occasional adjustment is considerably less restrictive than the visibility challenges commonly associated with 5%.

Is 20% Window Tint Legal in New Jersey?

New Jersey restricts aftermarket tint on the front side windows and windshield of standard passenger vehicles. Drivers should understand the possibility of a traffic stop or citation before installing 20% on the front doors.

Rules for the rear side windows and back glass differ from the restrictions covering the front window area. Medical exemptions require state approval and supporting documentation.

Read our New Jersey window tint law guide before choosing a percentage.

The 2015–2020 Honda Fit is not eligible for the $99.99 or $149.99 promotional packages because it has more than seven individual pieces of glass included in a complete side-and-rear installation.

Both specials cover the same qualifying tint package. The $99.99 special does not include a warranty, while the $149.99 special includes a warranty. Vehicles with additional window sections may require more patterns, preparation, film, and installation time, which excludes them from promotional pricing.

Financing is available for qualifying customers through American First Finance. Approval and payment terms are determined by the financing provider.

Which Film Type Should You Choose for a Honda Fit?

The best film depends on what the customer wants the tint to accomplish:

  • Standard film: A practical option for customers focused primarily on privacy and appearance. This was installed on the featured Honda Fit.
  • Carbon film: Provides better heat rejection than standard film.
  • Ceramic film: Offers the highest heat rejection for customers prioritizing interior comfort.

The selected percentage determines how dark the windows appear. Choosing carbon or ceramic would not automatically make 20% look darker than the standard film shown in these photographs.

Read our carbon versus ceramic window tint comparison before selecting a film.
