What Does 20% Side Window Tint Look Like on a 2024–Present Tesla Model 3?

This real 2025 Tesla Model 3 shows what 20% carbon tint looks like when it is installed on the four side doors but not the rear glass. With its black exterior and black interior, the finished car looks dark from the outside while still allowing a silhouette to be seen at certain angles.

This information applies to the 2024 Tesla Model 3, 2025 Tesla Model 3, 2026 Tesla Model 3, and later vehicles that share this body style.

Twenty percent tint gives the Tesla Model 3 a noticeably darker and more finished appearance without looking as extreme as 5%. On this black Model 3 with a black interior, the side windows appeared fairly dark during the day. From farther away, you could partially see into the cabin, while up close the occupants appeared more like silhouettes.

The black interior helps the 20% film appear darker than it would on an otherwise identical Model 3 with a white interior. Sunlight, reflections, viewing distance, and the angle of the car can still change how dark the tint looks in photographs and in person.

The customer was working within a budget and did not want to tint the rear window. Because the factory rear glass already has a partially shaded appearance, he chose to tint the four side doors and leave the rear glass alone.

The main goal was to complete the appearance of the car while adding privacy, glare reduction, and some heat rejection. Twenty percent was a good middle-ground choice because it creates a dark look without going to the extreme darkness of 5%.

Carbon film also made sense for this sides-only installation. A Tesla Model 3 has a large amount of glass, so installing ceramic film only on the four doors would not provide the full heat-rejection benefit that customers normally expect from ceramic. For this particular setup and budget, carbon offered the better balance of cost, appearance, and performance.

It provides useful privacy, but it does not completely hide the cabin in every condition. From a distance, the interior was difficult to make out, but someone standing close to the car could still see a silhouette through the side windows. Bright sunlight coming through the windshield or glass roof can also make the cabin easier to see.

The black-on-black color combination helps this installation appear darker. A Model 3 with a white or light interior would make the same 20% film look lighter because the interior reflects more light back through the glass.

On this vehicle, leaving the partially shaded rear glass untreated did not make the finished installation look noticeably mismatched. You generally do not view the side windows and the full rear glass from the same straight-on angle.

Tesla Model 3 owners also have several rear-glass choices. Some tint only the side doors, some tint the lower portion of the rear glass, and others choose a two-piece or one-piece full rear-window installation. The best option depends on the customer's budget, desired appearance, and heat-rejection goals.

For most drivers with good eyesight, 20% tint is manageable for everyday driving. Visibility through the side windows is generally good in well-lit areas.
