What Does 20% Front Window Tint Look Like on a 2024–Present Ford Ranger?

This white 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat came to Dope Tintings Automotive Window Tint in Pennsauken, New Jersey, for a front-window tint match. We installed 20% carbon window film on the two front doors to match the Ranger’s factory-tinted rear glass.

This information applies to the 2024 Ford Ranger, 2025 Ford Ranger, and 2026 Ford Ranger. The actual truck shown here is a white 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat Sport 4x4 with a dark interior.

Quick Answer: What Does 20% Front Window Tint Look Like on a Ford Ranger?

Twenty-percent tint on the two front doors of a Ford Ranger creates a close visual match with the factory-tinted rear windows. It gives the truck a more complete, balanced appearance without making the front windows as dark as 5%.

During daylight, you can still see a silhouette inside the front cabin depending on the viewing angle and how sunlight enters the truck. The dark interior helps the windows appear slightly darker, but 20% does not provide complete daytime privacy.

What We Installed on This 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat

This installation included:

  • 20% carbon window film
  • Driver-side front door window
  • Passenger-side front door window
  • White exterior
  • Dark interior
  • Factory-tinted rear doors and back glass

We did not install additional film over the rear factory glass, and the windshield was not tinted during this appointment.

The first photo shows the finished Ranger from the side, making it easy to compare the newly tinted front window with the factory-tinted rear door glass.

Why Did the Customer Choose 20% Carbon Tint?

The customer originally considered installing 20% ceramic film on all four doors, the back window, and the full windshield. However, the Ranger still needed its initial New Jersey inspection, so tinting the windshield before completing that inspection could have created a problem.

We also explained that installing 20% film over the existing factory-tinted rear glass would make the back section appear much darker—closer to a 5% appearance. The customer did not want the rear windows that dark or an uneven appearance between the front and rear sections.

He ultimately decided to tint only the two front doors with 20% film.

Although he initially considered ceramic, we advised him that ceramic was unnecessary if he was only tinting two windows. Ceramic provides its greatest heat-rejection benefit when the customer commits to tinting the major areas where solar heat enters, especially the windshield and other untinted glass.

The customer selected 20% carbon instead. Carbon provides better heat rejection than standard film without requiring him to pay for ceramic on only two windows. Readers comparing film options can learn more in our carbon versus ceramic window tint guide.

Does 20% Match the Ford Ranger’s Factory Rear Tint?

Yes. On this Ranger, 20% carbon matched the factory-tinted rear glass very closely.

The match can appear slightly different depending on sunlight, reflections, viewing angle, and how much light enters through the windshield. Because the windshield remained untinted, additional light entered the front cabin and sometimes made the two front windows look slightly lighter than the rear section.

That is normal when matching front windows to factory privacy glass. The film percentage can be correct even when the front windows appear a little lighter from certain angles.

How Much Privacy Does 20% Provide During the Day?

Twenty-percent tint provides moderate privacy, but it is not blackout tint.

From outside the Ranger during daylight, you can generally see a silhouette through the front windows. You may be able to tell that somebody is sitting inside without clearly identifying the person. Visibility into the cabin changes based on the sun’s position, reflections on the glass, and your distance from the vehicle.

The Ranger’s dark interior also helps the 20% film appear darker than it would with a light-gray or tan interior.

Customers who want complete privacy may consider a darker percentage, but 5% creates significantly greater nighttime visibility challenges. For this customer, 20% delivered the darker appearance he wanted without going to that extreme.

Is 20% Front Window Tint Too Dark at Night?

For most drivers with good eyesight, 20% is manageable at night.

In well-lit areas, drivers should generally be able to see through the front windows without major difficulty. In poorly lit areas, visibility can become more challenging, particularly when backing into a space or parallel parking.

A driver may occasionally need to lower the windows while parking in a very dark area. However, 20% is considerably easier to manage than 5% and is a common choice for drivers who want darkness without choosing limo tint.

Would We Recommend 20% on a Ford Ranger?

Yes. Based on more than 20 years of automotive window-tinting experience and over 30,000 completed vehicles, we regularly recommend 20% for Ford Ranger owners who want their front windows to match the factory-tinted rear glass.

The film does not have to be carbon to create the matching appearance. Standard film can provide a similar shade, while carbon adds improved heat rejection for the driver and front passenger.

Customers should still understand their local window-tint laws before choosing a percentage. New Jersey places restrictions on tint applied to front side windows and windshields. Review our New Jersey window tint laws guide before making your decision.
