What Does 15% Front and 10% Rear Tint Look Like on a 2019–2026 Ram 1500?
See a real 2026 Ram 1500 with 15% Standard tint on the front doors and rear glass metering around 10%, including appearance and visibility.
This 2026 Ram 1500 Crew Cab received 15% Standard film on the two front doors and 35% Standard film over the factory-tinted rear glass. Because the rear glass already measured around 20%, the completed rear section metered at approximately 10%.
The result was a gradual transition from 15% film in the front to a darker rear appearance measuring approximately 10%. The Tank Clear-Coat exterior and black interior completed the truck’s dark appearance.
This returning customer from the Cinnaminson area of South Jersey wanted more privacy than the original factory glass provided. Heat rejection was not a priority, so he selected our Standard film instead of upgrading to Carbon or Ceramic.
Why Choose 15% Front and 10% Rear Tint on a Ram 1500?
The Ram 1500 arrived with clear front-door glass and factory privacy glass across the rear of the Crew Cab. The customer felt that the untreated front doors made the truck look unfinished, while the factory rear glass was not dark enough for the appearance and privacy he wanted.
He did not want 5% on the front doors. Instead, he selected 15% because it gave the front cabin a noticeably dark appearance while remaining more practical to see through than an extremely dark percentage.
The rear section was intentionally made darker than the fronts. This created a gradual transition from:
- 15% Standard film on the two front doors
- Rear glass metering approximately 10% after the 35% overlay
Although we generally prefer a consistent appearance when possible, this split setup produced a smooth transition. It is a useful option for a Ram owner who wants manageable front windows with additional privacy behind the driver.
The customer was happy with the result because it completed the truck’s appearance and made the original factory rear glass considerably darker.
How Did We Create the Approximately 10% Rear Tint?
The rear privacy glass on this Ram 1500 measured around 20% before the aftermarket film was installed.
Instead of applying 15% or 5% film over the already-dark factory glass, we installed 35% Standard film over the rear doors and complete sliding rear-window assembly. After installation, the completed rear glass metered at approximately 10%.
The setup included:
- 15% Standard film on the driver-side front door
- 15% Standard film on the passenger-side front door
- 35% Standard film over both factory-tinted rear doors
- 35% Standard film across the factory-tinted rear window
- Film installed across the sliding rear-window configuration
- A separate windshield strip
The windshield strip was installed during the appointment, but it is not the focus of this article or the sides-and-rear pricing shown below.
This installation also demonstrates why an installer should evaluate the factory glass instead of choosing an overlay percentage solely by its label. Factory privacy glass and aftermarket film can vary from their nominal percentages. The completed meter reading provides more useful information about the actual result.
On this truck, the 35% overlay brought the rear section into the approximately 10% range needed to coordinate with the 15% film installed on the front doors.
What Did 15% Front and 10% Rear Tint Look Like During the Day?
During daylight, the 15% front doors gave the driver and front cabin a silhouette appearance. Whether the driver could be identified depended on the viewing angle, reflections and the amount of sunlight entering the cabin.
The black interior helped the front windows appear darker, but the driver was still visible from certain angles. The rear section provided noticeably more privacy. Depending on how sunlight reached the glass, the rears ranged from a dark silhouette to a stronger blackout appearance.
The difference between the 15% front film and rear glass metering approximately 10% was visible, but it did not create a harsh or mismatched transition. The rear section gradually became darker as the viewer moved from the front doors toward the back of the Crew Cab.
From inside the truck, the 15% front windows provided a considerably clearer view than their dark exterior appearance might suggest. Based on our experience, 15% is manageable for many drivers who are already comfortable with darker film, particularly in areas with adequate nighttime lighting.
Visibility can still become more difficult in poorly illuminated parking areas. Individual eyesight, surrounding light and prior experience with tint should always be considered before selecting a percentage.
