The Kia Telluride has quickly become one of the most popular family SUVs on the road, and it's also one of our favorite vehicles to tint at Dope Tintings.

Recently, we completed a 2022 Kia Telluride with one of our most requested SUV tint combinations:

• 5% Carbon Window Tint on the two front doors
• 20% Carbon Window Tint installed over the factory rear privacy glass

The customer wanted the aggressive 5% appearance while improving heat rejection, protecting his family from the sun, and staying within his budget. The finished result completely changed the look of the SUV.

This Telluride is both a daily driver and a family vehicle. When we asked the customer what he wanted from his window tint, his answer was simple:

• Maximum privacy
• Better heat rejection
• UV protection
• A cleaner appearance
• Better protection for his kids from the sun

He wanted the classic 5% look because he preferred not to be easily seen inside the vehicle. Since he wasn't planning to tint the windshield, Carbon Window Tint made the most sense. Carbon film provides excellent heat rejection at a lower cost than ceramic, making it a great choice for customers who want performance without paying for features they don't need.

Like many SUVs, the Kia Telluride comes with factory privacy glass on the rear doors and cargo area.

To create a uniform appearance, we installed:

• 5% Carbon on the front doors
• 20% Carbon over the factory rear privacy glass

Because the factory rear glass is already shaded, adding 20% film creates a finished appearance that's very close to 5%. The result is a consistent look from the front of the vehicle all the way to the rear.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear from Telluride owners is: "My back windows are already tinted."

The truth is they're not — they're factory privacy glass. Factory privacy glass is simply shaded glass. It does not provide the same heat rejection or UV protection as quality window film. It also can't be removed or made lighter because the color is built into the glass itself.

Adding Carbon Window Tint over the factory glass provides benefits that privacy glass alone cannot, including:

• Better heat rejection
• UV protection
• Improved comfort
• A darker, more uniform appearance

This Telluride featured a black exterior, making it the perfect color for this setup. The customer waited while we completed the installation, so he got to experience the transformation immediately.

When we pulled the Telluride around to the front of the shop, his reaction said it all. The SUV looked exactly how he had imagined. The 5% appearance completely changed the personality of the vehicle. He was genuinely surprised by how much better the Telluride looked and couldn't stop smiling.

For this customer, Carbon Window Tint checked every box:

• Heat rejection ✓
• Privacy ✓
• Better appearance ✓
• A reasonable budget ✓

Since he wasn't planning on tinting the windshield, Carbon offered the best value. One advantage of this setup is that if he ever decides to tint the windshield later, he can choose either Carbon or Ceramic — both films work well together.

Does the Kia Telluride come with factory tinted rear windows? It comes with factory privacy glass, which is shaded during manufacturing. It provides privacy but does not offer the heat rejection and UV protection of quality window film.

Why tint over factory privacy glass? Adding Carbon Window Tint improves heat rejection, UV protection, comfort, and creates a darker, more uniform appearance.

Is Carbon Window Tint worth it? Yes. Carbon Window Tint is an excellent option for customers who want noticeable heat rejection and a premium appearance without the added cost of Ceramic.

Can factory privacy glass be removed? No. Factory privacy glass is part of the glass itself and cannot be removed or made lighter.

Is 5% too dark for a family SUV? That depends on your personal preference and local laws. Many customers choose the 5% look for maximum privacy and appearance, but it's important to understand New Jersey's window tint laws before making your decision.
